Native style

Native style

Shoemaker Dr. Cardin wows us again with a couple of DC White shoes

It’s time for some Ethnic
Studies 101! Quit your
whining – our classes
are actually fun. Native
Americans - You might
know them as Red Indians, but the
the proper term is Native
American. They’re kinda like our
Orang Asli. And just like our Orang
Asli, their culture is very
fascinating. But before we ramble
on and on about it, let’s focus on
something that could make your
life a whole lot better – specifically,
your feet.
We’re sure you’ve heard of
moccasins? We’re even more sure
that you’ve owned a pair (or four)
before. Well, in the late 1980s and
1990s, they were all the rage,
and with every reason.
They were comfortable, hardy and,
surprisingly, stylish. But Native
Americans have been wearing
the moccasin for at least
a hundred years already.
They made theirs completely by
hand, so you know they ensured
quality for their own feet.
Inspired by the Native
Americans and their trendy, longlasting
footwear, Dr. Cardin began
researching and designing a
series of moccasins in 1994 and
released the moccasins to the
world in 1997. Needless to say, it
was a hit. Ever since, Dr. Cardin
has instilled the essence of Native
Americans in every pair of their
shoes. Whether it’s a straight-up
moccasin or a more contemporary
shoe, you’ll definitely see plenty of
Native American influence in their
designs.
This season, Dr. Cardin releases
the DC White Ado and the DC
White Ethnic. We like that both
shoes keeps it simple, elegant and
classy. You could wear it to the
gym, the club, the mall or even the
office. Each shoe has some of Dr.
Cardin’s finest tech. For instance,
on the outsole of the DC White Ado
are “21 Horizontal Lines” which
helps release tension and allows
greater flexibility when you walk.
The outsole is made of one piece
of ultra-durable leather, which is
stitched together at the top. Thanks
to that, it grips the ground really
well for all your bison-hunts. Or, uh,
window shopping. The midsole has
extra cushioning for extra comfort,
and the upper is the classic
moccasin at its best. It conforms
to the natural shape of your feet
and has a back seam gathered at
the top of the rounded tow. With
the DC White Ethnic, you’ll get a
more contemporary sneaker design,
influenced by the Native American
boomerang. Comfort, style and
quality are all guaranteed in the
Ethnic.
So if you’re tired of your flashy
shoes torturing your feet or your
comfortable shoes making you look
like a doofus, it’s time to go back
to basics. It’s time to go native. It’s
time to pick up a DC White.
